First Alert EL52-2 Two-story Fire Escape Ladder, Steel, Anti-slip
First Alert EL52-2 Two-story Fire Escape Ladder, Steel, Anti-slip
The First Alert EL52-2 Two-Story Fire Escape Ladder provides a means of escape from a second-story window in the event of a fire or other emergency. Designed to hold up to 375 pounds at a time, this fire safety ladder comes with anti-slip rungs. Stabilizers on each rung help keep the ladder steady and away from the wall for a safe and quick exit. The ladder is built with steel tested to 1,125 pounds and DuPont CORDURA nylon strapping for strength and stability. The fire safety ladder comes fully assembled, folds easily, and can be stored in a closet or under a bed. The 14-foot ladder is easy to set up and attaches to any standard windowsill measuring between 6 and 10 inches wide.
Well packaged item. Looks very sturdy. Instructions clearly marked. Hope I never have to use this in an emergency situation, but I feel sooo much better having two of these upstairs in my house. I like that the box it comes in has a carry handle, so you can keep stashed under a bed or in a closet or behind a chair that's nearest to a window and can easily grab the handle on the box w/ the ladder neatly tucked/ folded inside. I did not know it would come like this, and was concerned how I would store it without it getting possibly tangled up. But am glad the company thought to package this is such a manner to make it easy to grab and install in case of emergency. Very pleased and actually feel like I got a heck of a deal price-wise! *When it arrived, we used this as an opportunity to go over, as a family, what our fire escape plan is so that everyone knows exactly what to do and where to go*
Need this for a loft bedroom/rec-room with no other way to escape other than a window in case of fire.
The product was just as promised. I think my children will have no problem deploying the ladder in case of a fire. We did a test climb and all seemed well.
These ladders are not too bulky or heavy. They are also reusable, which is a great detail. They fit in a small area, so they won't take up too much storage space.
Takes up very little room, lightweight so that kids can use. Holds over 1,000 pounds so we can exit quickly if necessary. Price at Walmart was lowest I found and shipping efficient. It arrived a day earlier than predicted!

It is good to have, although I hope I will never need to use it.
This particular model of escape ladder is reusable, not just for one time use. Therefore you can unpack it and hang it out a window to check it out.
Ladder itself is well packaged but box container doesn't secure [by design?]. Also, hard time finding place to store it near window. Won't fit under bed. Packaged ladder is 8" without box and almost 9" with box. Can not unfold and use to test, but despite the 2 minor aesthetic issues, I finally feel a little safer to have a 3rd floor escape. My area is becoming increasingly subject to fire weather.
Will do the job intended but it looks more like use for a child and an adult might hesitate to trust such a small (narrow) ladder. I guess when the flames are at your side you will try anything and it will hold you; I am 250 pounds and it held me.
A compact ladder that arrives in a box similar to a briefcase. This item can be placed under a bed, in a closet, near a window, etc.

Questions & Answers
Question:
IanF : How much space does the product take up when it is being stored?
Answer:
MiniRich : Not a lot....we keep it in the box under the bed. It is not hard to replace in the box after use. (We have practiced fire drills.)
Question:
mary123434 : Will this ladder hang from a gutter?
Answer:
UGAmomof3 : I definitely would NOT hang it on a gutter. The gutter may not be secure enough to hold it with a person's weight on it! It needs to hang on a really secure structure.I guess you could call it a rope ladder. it is folded, accordion style, in a small box. You drop it out the window and release the velcro and it unfolds. It is very sturdy and easy to fold back into its box.
Question:
JTAIP : Can this ladder be used more than once?
Answer:
mpdm : yes, just fold back up, practice is very important to do.
